FURNITURE Scandinavian Designs - Shop now and get up to 60% savings on floor models. The downtown shop will be closing in early May, so don't delay. If you are furnishing your home after mid-May, you can find them at their new location on West Francisco, still in San Rafael. Ask for Ricardo! Runner up is Sunrise Home, also in downtown San Rafael.
MATTRESS STORE - Speaking of furniture, we all need to know about this mattress store. The Foam Store staff is fantastic!
GARDEN Sloat Garden Centers - Not just one garden shop, but three in Marin alone! Shop their vegetable garden starts now for a months of fresh veggies for your grill. They are especially proud of their tomato selection. Honorable mention to some other favorites - West End Nursery, Green Jeans and Ace Hardware nursery on the Miracle Mile (my choice for friendliest staff!)
TREE SERVICE - While Marin has a plethora of choices, the winner in 2021 is Bob's Firesafe Tree Services. 'Might want to call now to get on their schedule - I predict their calendar will book quickly.
HARDWARE - Pini Ace Hardware in Novato. But we also have Ace Hardware on the Miracle Mile (again), Jackson's Hardware, and Goodman's Hardware. Marin is so fortunate to have so many neighborhood stores to choose from.
STORAGE - Not only did Bellam Self Storage win in this category, they also won for greenist company, using only "earth friendly" materials and have been 100% solar for over 10 years.
MOVERS - Following the green theme, Good Green Movers won not only for best movers, but this family-owned business also won our hearts as 'most community minded' company.
FOOD STORE - No doubt Marin has alot to choose from in this category and they are all priceless, especially this past year! The 'best of' award went to our own local Good Earth Foods, with locations in Fairfax and Shoreline Highway in Mill Valley. Honorable mentions go to Whole Foods and Nugget.
HOME STAGER - Yve Betar of Set To Sell Home Staging will make your home as attractive as possible.
HOTEL - Remember those? Now that family can travel to visit us here in Marin, have them stay at the most popular spot, the San Anselmo Inn. Surprisingly, the dog-friendly Panama Hotel did not make the list this year, but we do have the Mill Valley Inn, Acqua Hotel in Strawberry (gorgeous views!), and of course, Cavallo Point Lodge placed in the top tier of places to put your visitors.
LOCKSMITH - It's always good to know who to call before you need to call. It's a tie! The winners here are Greg's Locksmith. He can help with same-day appointments and even works on auto keys. Closer to Central San Rafael, another standby is Transbay Security Services on the Miracle Mile.
PROPERTY MANAGER - Not ready to sell your rental? Talk to Marin's favorite agency, PRANDI.
SOLAR - Ready to go solar? There are two winners in this category - Sun First Solar with an office in San Rafael and SolarCraft up in Novato.
UTILITY COMPANY - Sorry PG&E, there's a new game in town. Congratulations to MCE in San Rafael. They offer 60% renewable, 100% California-produced renewable, and 100% locally-produced solar; competitive, stable rates; and reinvest in our community through local energy projects, workforce development, and targeted community programs.
