My Marin County ‘Favorites’
It’s Labor Day Weekend and the weather is just about as ideal as we could hope for. If you’re like me, you’ll be staying local this weekend, enjoying the natural beauty and the great services available to us here of Marin County. As such, I’d like to give a big shout out to some of my favorite places and people to visit. I’d also love to hear YOUR favorites!
Best Markets: I’ve got two off-the-beaten-path markets that have extraordinary deli counters, specialty items and super friendly staff. The first is Nugget Market in Tiburon. Every time I go here, I walk out with some new, unexpected and delicious item! The second is Andy’s Market at Loch Lomond Marina. And if you’re looking for a family outing, pick up some deli items and spread a blanket overlooking the marina. Then work off that dinner with a stroll down the breakwater or throw a Frisbee on the green. It’s a romantic place for dinner with your special someone, two legs or four!
If you enjoy being on the water – especially in the less touristy summer of 2020 – I recommend the Sunday Morning Eco Sail on the Freeda B where you can leave the world behind as you slip under the Golden Gate Bridge for a thrilling new perspective. You can bring your own picnic on the boat for a limited time, too! Another option would be to call up that kayaking friend and get some exercise! No masks required and the feeling of the spray on your face will be surprisingly refreshing after six months covered up!
Land lovers have no shortage of vista trails to share with our 4-legged friends. It’s always fun to take the tried and true Blackie’s Pasture waterfront walk, and the Mill Valley estuary path will help beat the heat, but I recommend spicing it up with the path less chosen. Instead of heading down the same old path, spice it up with some new Southern Marin beach trails!
If you want a little pampering, may I suggest Larkspur Nail Spa in the charming downtown area? After six months of DIY self-care, give your digits a little love with these talented ladies. They’ve recently remodeled with fresh paint that sets off the crystal chandelier as you walk through to the back patio. And they’ve installed new massage chairs for our ‘After Days’ enjoyment, may it come soon.
Of course, the Farmer’s Market could be a great way to plan for your week ahead. The Civic Center market is easy to navigate, and offers everything you could need, but also consider venture out of your routine and try one of the countless Bay Area Farmers Markets.
Aren’t you ready to try something new? I know I am! Let me know some of your favorite places in Marin County! I’m always asking friends and colleagues their favorite haunts.
