Greenbrae

Greenbrae

Developed on what was once an old dairy ranch, Greenbrae was named for the lush green hills - brae is Scottish for hill - that surround the area. As its name suggests, much of Greenbrae is hilly; beyond that, Greenbrae is a community that is difficult to define. This residential neighborhood borders Larkspur, Kentfield and San Rafael, but the boundaries are a bit unclear. Its zip code is served by the post office in San Rafael. The Greenbrae bike trail meanders into Kentfield, and the Greenbrae Boardwalk wanders into Larkspur. Perplexing? Perhaps. Even city planners have confessed to some confusion. In the long run, however, it doesn't really matter. Greenbrae is what it is - a lovely area surrounded by oak covered hillsides.
